Waynesville, Joanna Clontz Jennings, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Givens Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Born May 16, 1922 to Inez Orr Clontz and W. Carl Clontz of Canton, North Carolina. She married the love of her life, James Cecil (J.C.) Jennings from Orangeburg, South Carolina, and they were married for 68 years until J.C.'s passing in 2009. Joanna was also proceeded in death by her siblings, Mildred Hudson Singleton, Winton Clontz, Loy D. Clontz and also by her eldest son, James (Jim) Jennings. Joanna enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, and she loved the fellowship of her many friends and family. She was a former Kindergarten teacher for twelve years at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville where she and her family were members. Mrs. Joanna Jennings is survived by three sons, Gary Joe Jennings and wife, Doris, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Terry Jennings and wife, Lisa, of Hickory, North Carolina, Tom Jennings and wife, Cathy, of Hendersonville, North Carolina; her brother, Dick Clontz and wife, Carolyn, of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jody Jennings, Jennifer VanCleave, Joshua Jennings and Laurin Jennings; and a great-grandson, Graham Jennings. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 in the Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of The Givens Estate for the care and kindness that was given to Mrs. Jennings.
