Joanna Penland

Clyde – Joanna Neal Penland, 84, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020 at Memorial Mission Campus.

Joanna was a native of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Walter and Blanche Hall Neal.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Penland; a daughter, Debbie Swanger Deal; and a sister, Helen Neal Freeman.  Joanna was a member of West Canton Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Amy Swanger Wilde and husband, George, of Staley, North Carolina; one stepdaughter, Kara Penland; three sons, Buz Swanger and wife, Freda and Darrell Swanger and wife, Dani, all of Canton, and Greg Swanger and wife, Melinda, of San Antonia, Texas; two step-sons, Stephen Kelly Penland and wife, Dawn and Andrew Penland; two sisters, Edith Ray and Judy VanNewhouse of Lake Jackson, Texas; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at West Canton Baptist Church with the Reverend Jonathan Blaylock officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church.
