Joanne James

"1937 – 2015" Canton – Joanne O'Neil James, age 78, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Ann Hooper O'Neil. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria Ruthann James and a sister, Geraldine Henson. Joanne loved to travel, especially going to Myrtle Beach as well as traveling with Christian Tours. Her career as a nurse allowed her to experience great personal joy in serving those in her community. She was employed with Haywood Regional Medical Center as a registered nurse for many years from which she retired. Joanne was also a member of Canton First Baptist Church. She is survived one niece, Jerri Warren of Canton; two nephews, Steve Henson of Canton and Greg Henson of New Market, Tennessee; many beloved great-nieces and nephews; special friends, Lewis and Rebecca Roberts and Gladys Duncan, all of Hendersonville; and an aunt, Betty Bridges of Clyde. A graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2015 at New Cruso Cemetery with Toss Smathers officiating. The family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff of Silver Bluff for their love and special care.
