Joe Carpenter

Waynesville, Joe Albert Carpenter, age 77, of 287 Browning Branch Road, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Johnny and Fannie Carver Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Carpenter, who died in 2011 and two brothers, Tommy and Robert Carpenter. He played football at Waynesville Township High School and worked at Dayco, retiring with 42 year's service. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to go fishing and camping. He regularly met friends at the Brar Patch and was an avid fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Atlanta Braves. He is survived by a daughter, Sheree Hill and husband, Mike, of Waynesville; two sons, Joe Steve Carpenter and wife, Martha, of Sylva and Randy Carpenter of Waynesville; one sister, Marie Sutton and husband, Marvin, of Maggie Valley; four brothers, Johnny Carpenter Jr., Don Carpenter and his wife, Debbie, and Frank Carpenter and his wife, Arlene, all of Maggie Valley and Harry Carpenter and his wife, Betty, of Fletcher; and three grandchildren, Brittany Crisp and husband, Isaac, Wesley Hill, and Morgan Carpenter. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Susan Giles officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim, Victor, and Chris Carver, Wally Bryson, Marty Sutton, and Neil Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Medford and Hugh Carver. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
