Joe Evans

Joe Sherman Evans, age 91, of 2225 Dutch Cove Road died Sunday, August 27, 2006, at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. He was a native of Haywood County and the son of the late, John and Etta Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva K. Evans, who died in 1996; two sisters, three brothers; two daughters, Barbara Evans and Nell Phillips; two sons, Bobby and Bill Plemmons; and a grandson, Ronnie Plemmons. He retired from Champion International with 43 years of service. He loved spending time with his family and his dog, Dolly. He was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II. He is survived by a daughter, Betty Johnson and her husband, Joyce, of Canton; a son, Clarence Plemmons of Canton; two sisters, Minnie E. Belisle of Columbus, OH and Nellie "Tootsie" Goldberg of Harriman, TN; a son-in-law, Don Evans, six grandchildren, Nicole Brown, Shelia Johnson, Cindy Carter, Debra Messer, Michael and Tracy Plemmons; 13 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at 2810 Dutch Cove Road, Canton.
