Clyde, Joel Reid “Joe” Fletcher, 65, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 17, 2021.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, Joe was the son of the late H.P. and Nancy Reynolds Fletcher. Joe worked for Champion International, Blue Ridge Paper, and now Evergreen Packaging for 45 years. He was also active with his church of nearly 39 years, Bible Baptist Church. Joe taught the Men’s and Teenage Boys Sunday School Classes and served as a trustee for many years. One of his favorite times of the year was the church picnic at Camp Hope. Joe, along with Jeremy Rogers and Jimmy Riddle, affectionately known as the “J-Team” would smoke barbeque for the whole church. Joe took great joy in blessing others with his love to smoke meat. He also enjoyed spending quality time at their family cabin. Joe would fish the lake or garden with Wanda. Joe loved his family more than life itself. He adored his wife and daughters; they were the light of his life. Joe also took great pride in his country and gave thanks to the men and women who fight for our freedom. A huge part of their lives is gone, but the family takes great comfort in knowing Joe is no longer suffering and in the presence of Jesus.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Wanda Price Fletcher; two daughters, Caitlin Fletcher Carver, and husband, Justin Carver and Kristen Fletcher Townsend, and husband, Tyler Townsend; three grandchildren, Sophia and Evan Carver, and baby Maggie Townsend, who will be arriving in October; one sister, Jennifer Reade, and husband, Rex; a niece, Katie Song Reade; and Joe’s beloved pups, Jet, Dixie and Zoey.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Dwight Banks and Pastor David Reed officiating. The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church, 203 Bible Baptist Dr. Waynesville, NC 28786. Burial will follow the service on Friday at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The care of Mr. Fletcher has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and an online memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at www.wellsfuneralhome.com
