"1927 – 2015" Waynesville – Joe Bob Stevenson, age 87, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Don and Oda Reed Stevenson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine "Gerry" Hyde; and one brother, Tommy Stevenson. Joe Bob was a member of Good News Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He also enjoyed gardening and golfing. Joe Bob was a United States Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Jean Buchanan Stevenson; two daughters, Joyce Clark and her husband, Doug, and Lynn Smith and her husband, Steve, all of Waynesville; one son, Mark Stevenson of Waynesville; one sister, Judy Limbo of Clyde; one brother, Harry Stevenson of Asheville; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Smith, Reverend Jacob Smith, and Reverend Todd Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Good News Baptist Church, P.O. Box 241, Candler, NC 28715.
