Joe Worley

Joe Letch Worley, age 87, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at MedWest – Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late John Letcher and Viola Stinnett Worley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gudger and George Worley. He was the manager of Champion Credit Union for more than 30 years and a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church. Joe had a passion and heart for serving others. He enjoyed volunteering at Haywood Regional Medical Center and the VA Medical Center. Upon his retirement, he was on the board of trustees at Champion Credit Union, board member of the Bon-A-Venture Cemetery Fund, and treasurer at Canton Central United Methodist Church. He participated with close friends in a birthday club. Joe was a kind and generous man, who will be greatly missed. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict. He is survived by three nieces, Terry Wyatt and Margaret Stockton of Waynesville, and Diane Rollins of Rosman; two close friends and confidants, Dr. Barry R. Pate and his wife, Barbara, of Asheville and Charles Ayers of Canton; numerous great nieces and nephews; and his constant companion, "Sookie", his cat. Private services will be held. Memorials may be made to Bon-A-Venture Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 32 Rhoda Street, Canton, NC 28716.
