Joel Queen

June 9, 1976 — September 30, 2013

Joel Burton Queen, age 37, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013 at MedWest Haywood. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Dewey Queen and his maternal grandparents, Ray and Nell Haney. He was a 1994 graduate of Pisgah High School, an employee of Wilsonart, and a member of Rocky Face Baptist Church where he was an active member and served as a deacon. Joel was special and dear to all who knew him. His family meant everything to him, especially his girls, Ava and Alldyn who were the light of his life, his Mom, and his Dad who he considered his best friend. Joel cherished his role as husband and father showing unconditional love to all of his girls each and every day. Many looked up to Joel as their role-model because of his selfless, giving nature that he showed to everyone he met. He could always put a smile on your face with his quick wit and sense of humor. Joel enjoyed riding and taking care of his horses. Joel will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who will hold and cherish their memories forever. In addition to his parents, Keith and Jean Queen of Clyde, he is survived by his wife of 17 years, Julie Burnette Queen; two daughters, Ava Laurel Queen and Alldyn Rae Queen both of the home; his paternal grandmother, Beulah Queen of Canton; a sister, Keitha Albright and her husband, Ben, of Pickens, SC; nieces and nephews, Skyler and Shayna Albright, Landry Alexander, and Ellie Rogers; many other very special family members and a host of special friends; and his special dog "Perry." Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Rocky Face Baptist Church with the Reverend Donnie Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Fincher's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Rocky Face Baptist Church Deacons Benevolence Fund, 1635 Worley Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716.
