John Alcorn

May 26, 1932 — February 28, 2003

Waynesville, North Carolina-John William ''Bill'' Alcorn, age 70, of 53 Cortland Court, died Friday, February 28, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Louisville, Kentucky and was the son of the late William O. and Virginia E. Byrne Alcorn. He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Alcorn.

He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career at the Courier Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, where his father was a typesetter. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum in 1985. He formed Aluma-Tarp Corporation in Jacksonville, Florida where he holds several patents. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Neptune Beach, Florida. He was a US Navy veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty J. Tobin Alcorn; two sons, John B. Alcorn, Sr. and his wife Mary, of Waynesville and William W. Alcorn and his wife Denise, of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Donald W. Alcorn and his wife, Joyce, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and three grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2003 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The Reverend Dr. William Bowling will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. Monday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
