Canton - John "Johnny" Pearson Blaylock, Jr., age 78, of the Dix Creek community died Friday, October 21, 2005 at Haywood Regional Center following a brief illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late John Pearson Blaylock, Sr. and Mary Burnette Blaylock. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lesa Adair Blaylock who died in 1977; one brother, Thomas Glenn Blaylock; six sisters, Genny Thompson, Billie Thompson, Joyce Frizell, Mabel Cochran, Annetta Garnes and Lillian Hovey. He retired in 1988 from Champion International with 35 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and VFW Post 5198. John loved his grandchildren very much. He was a devout NASCAR and Atlanta Braves fan. He was a handyman and could fix almost anything. He was a United States Air Force veteran. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Lorean O. Blaylock, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy B. Underwood and her husband, Sam of Waynesville; two sons, Kenneth E. Blaylock and his wife, Teresa of Candler and Tim W. Blaylock and his wife, Anita of Bethel; seven sisters, Christine Garner of Lakeview, NC, Cheryl Sanford of Maggie Valley, Judy Mashburn of Pisgah Forest, Bernice Stamey of Candler, Margaret Blaylock of Canton, Bonnie Thompson of Canton and Joann Sales of Canton; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Stack and her husband, Charlie of Winston-Salem, Mathew Underwood of Waynesville, Michael Blaylock of Bethel and Jonathan and Laurel Blaylock of Candler. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2005 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Perry Brindley and Reverend Heath Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Mathew Underwood, Michael Blaylock, Jonathan Blaylock, Jackie Mease, Alan Lee and R. W. Stuart. Honorary pallbearers will be members of John's Sunday School Class. At other times, the family will be at the residence of his daughter, Nancy Underwood, 1405 Oakdale Road, Waynesville, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
