John Cogdill

Canton-John Edwin Cogdill, age 82, of the Thickety community, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at the Brian Center of Waynesville.<br><br>He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was a son of the late Wilford and Essie Hipps Cogdill. He was the husband of the late Helen Alexander Cogdill who died in 1998 and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Cogdill Mabry. John retired from Champion International and was a member of North Canton Baptist Church. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict.<br><br>He is survived by a son-in-law, Rodney Mabry and a granddaughter, Caitlin Lauren Mabry, both of Chester, VA.<br><br>A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2004 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremations Services in Canton.<br><br>The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Western Carolina Chapter, Mountain Region Office, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644.<br><br>
