John Dingley, Jr.

August 13, 1927 — August 17, 2004

Lake Junaluska, NC-John Thomas Dingley, Jr., age 77, of 53 White Dogwood Lane, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he grew up in Orlando, Florida and had resided in Minneapolis, MN for 22 years prior to living in Haywood County for the past 16 years. He was the son of the late Dr. John Thomas Dingley, Sr. and Doris Lilian Dingley. He attended high school at Du Bose Academy and later graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Virginia. He was a navy veteran of World War II. In 1987, he retired as National Sales Manager for Sound Products from 3M Company after 25 years. He was a member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, a former choir member, and was president of the Tullis Sunday-School Class. He was a former member of Richfield United Methodist Church in Minneapolis. He enjoyed sailing and woodworking and shared his talents with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean Land Dingley; five daughters, Linda Derosier and her husband, Michael of Kettle Falls, WA, Doris Dingley and her husband, Steve Slostad, of Lakeville, MN, Clare Strand and her husband, Ray, of Morris, MN, Joyce Slostad and her husband, Peter, of Champlin, MN, and Allison Waring and her husband, Robert, of Dumfries, VA; one son, John Harold Dingley and his wife, Laima, of Richfield, MN; one sister, Joyce Dingley Howell and her husband, Arnold, of Orlando, FL; and 13 grandchildren, Amy, Laura, Alex, Michael, William, Joshua, Matthew, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Victoria, Lauren, James, and Katrina. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert E. Fuquay, Jr. and Reverend Woody Adams officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long's Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745.
