John Michael Dunton, 60, of Candler passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at his residence. A native of Illinois, he was the son of the late William and Barbara Dwyer Dunton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Ruth and his brother, Pete.
John proudly served in the US Navy. He had a long career in Residential Construction and was a foreman with TNNC Construction Company. He enjoyed working and building and always said his only regret was “that I didn’t have another day to work”. He loved his dogs, including Ace.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Rhenda Dunton; daughter, Coreen Dunton; four stepchildren, Amber, Amanda, Tricia and Brian; three sisters, Paula, Anna and Elizabeth; four brothers, Don, Tony, Frank and Patrick; grandchildren, Elliott Lydia Dunton, Alex and Kyle and three nieces, Breanna, Hannah and Annaleigh.
The family would like to give special thanks to Brad, Tim and Carol Goodson from TNNC, Gary Scott for his friendship and support and Amber for her ongoing love and support.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021, at Wells Chapel of Faith, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive, Candler with Reverend Ray Curtis officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or Duke Cancer Institute, 710 West Main Street, Suite 200, Durham NC 27701.
The care of Mr. Dunton has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
