Clyde-John Robert Ferguson, age 80, of 2450 Panther Creek Road, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at his home. After a noble fight with cancer, he went home to be with his Lord. A lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Andrew McKinley and Ida Mae McElroy Ferguson. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII where he was stationed in Germany and France. Mr. Ferguson retired from Champion Paper International after 33 years of service. He was a supervisor in the wood pulp division. For the rest of his very active life, he was engaged in farming, specifically dairy, beef cattle, and tobacco. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Edna Harrell Ferguson in 1989 and a sister, Sarah Lee Greene of Clyde in 2001. Surviving are his daughters, Barbara Ross and her husband, Ralph, and Tammy F. Francis and her husband, Dennis, all of Waynesville; a son, Johnny Bruce Ferguson and his wife, Marlene, of Clyde; seven grandchildren, Ferguson and Hank Ross, Deana Hyatt, Andy and Blake Francis, Marla Morris and Jonathan Ferguson; eight great-grandchildren, Adam, Sarah, Zachary, and Elizabeth Ross, Amanda and Jacob Hyatt, and Sydney and McKinley Morris; and a very special friend and companion Teresa Rathbone. His eight surviving sisters are Margaret Williams, Bennie Mae Underwood, Betty Moody, Helen Davis, Ruth Presnell, Annette Best, Maxine Bradshaw, and Irene Noland; two surviving brothers are Charles A. and Carlyle Ferguson; and numerous nieces and nephews. His loving devotion to his family and the care and concern, which he showed to others, was obvious by his many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Crabtree United Methodist Church with Reverend Ned Martin and Reverend Dr. W. T. Medlin, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at the home of Johnny Bruce Ferguson, 191 Ferguson Cove Loop, Clyde.
