John Fish, Jr.

April 17, 1949 — February 14, 2016

"1949 – 2016" Candler – John Hardy Fish, Jr., age 66, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016, at his home. A native of Haywood County, John grew up in Cruso and enjoyed playing sports, fishing, and hunting. John was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the United States Army 1st Cavalry Division, Company C, 1st Battalion (Airmobile), 8th Cavalry. He earned several medals, including three purple hearts, bronze star, air medal, and the army commendation medal for heroism. After serving in the war, he returned to Haywood County. He and his family left in 1974 for him to pursue a career in the paper industry. His career allowed him and his family to live and experience many great states of our nation, including Washington, Indiana, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, and South Carolina. John was a kind hearted, loving man, that made many friends wherever he went. John was preceded in death by his parents, John Hardy Fish, Sr. and Clara Lou Welch Fish; his daughter and son-in-law, Jenny Fish Lea (Zach); and his brother, Vance Fish. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Nancy Lance Fish; three children, daughter, Laura Fish of Miami, Florida; sons, Lance Fish (Lisa), of Dallas, Texas and Jordan Fish (Kelli) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two sisters, Faye Teixeira (Joe), of Cruso, and Sharon Moore of Canton; two sisters-in-law, Karen Griffin (Kevin) of Candler, and Joy Wright (Colin), LeMoore, California; two brothers, Joe Bob Fish of Canton, and Wayne Fish (Nellie), of Lexington; one brother-in-law, James Lance (Donez) of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Sophia and Jonathan Fish; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Beulah Baptist Church with the Reverend Barry Clark and Reverend Josh Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
