John Hipps

July 5, 1915 — August 31, 2007

John Handy "Bill" Hipps, age 92, of Waitsel Way died Friday, August 31, 2007, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Marion Erastus and Mattie Mae Robinson Hipps. He was preceded in death by his wife, Waitsel Mackey Hipps who died in 2005 and two great-grandchildren. He retired from Rogers Tractor in Clyde and was a member of West Canton Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Iris Ensley and her husband, Bruce, of Canton and Sandra Mathews and her husband, Harold, of Clyde; two grandsons; three step granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2007, at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road with the Reverend Joe Steadman and Reverend W. O. "Bill" Henson officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bon-A-Venture Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 32 Rhoda Street, Canton, NC 28716.
