John Howard

Maggie Valley, NC, John Calvin Howard, age 68, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his residence. A native of Fort Mill, South Carolina, he was a former resident of Rock Hill, South Carolina and had resided in Haywood County for the past 17 years. He was a former employee of Rock Hill Lumber Company and a retired real estate developer and owner of Custom Builders Inc. of Rock Hill, South Carolina. John enjoyed woodworking and racing Winston minis. He was of Baptist faith and loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helen Hargett Howard; one daughter, Tammy Pope and her husband, Bill, of Rock Hill, South Carolina; three sons, Johnny Howard and his wife, Donna, of Newport, North Carolina; Terry Howard and his wife, Rosie, of Fort Worth, Texas, Steven Howard and his wife, Sandra, of Rock Hill, South Carolina; one sister, Cora Mae Calhoun and her husband, Paul, of Loganville, Georgia; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
