Candler – John Joseph Meeker, Jr., 58, of Asheville, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at his home.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, John was the son of Mary Louise Meeker and the late John Joseph Meeker, Sr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his uncle, Paul Meeker. John attended Asheville Christian Academy, Enka High School, and lastly, AB Technical College where he graduated with an Associates Degree and was a member of the Dean’s List. He was an athletic man who loved sports, especially golf, and was a devout Astros and Atlanta Braves fan. John regularly watched sports channels, game shows, and the Andy Griffith Show. He was great with engines and made a hobby of working on cars.
John is survived by two sisters, Dianne Meeker Thomas, of Arlington, TX, and Colleen Meeker-Ruff, of Houston, TX: as well as a niece, Megan Morton, of Arlington, TX.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler with Pastor Tony Hooper officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The care of Mr. Meeker has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
