Waynesville, John "Jack" Charles Klopp, age, 89, of Tate Street, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at his residence. Jack was raised in Haywood County and was the son of the late Charles Gorr Klopp and Opal Mae Fluke Klopp. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Jane Edwards Klopp, who passed away in 2012 and a daughter, Margaret Louise Klopp. Jack attended Clemson University, Texas A&M, Fribourg University in Switzerland and graduated with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII. Jack retired from Champion International with 40 years of service as a mechanical engineer and was of Methodist faith. Jack was a member of the Haywood County Genealogy Society. He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, boating, riverboat cruising, and had a fascination for trains. Jack loved being with his family and adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was depended on by family and friends to provide sound advice in any situation. He is survived by two daughters, Eva Elizabeth Lindsey and her husband, James of Asheville and Kathryn Anne Heatherly and her husband, Ronald, of Clyde; one son, Charles Edwards Klopp and his wife, Toni, of Mobile, Alabama; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend George Thompson and Reverend Kelley Jones officiating. Military rites will follow. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. A private inurnment will be at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery in Clyde. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MedWest Haywood Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
