John Lanning, Jr.

Waynesville-John Thomas "Junior" Lanning, Jr., age 59, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family at his residence Saturday, March 17, 2007 after a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late John James and Dessie Mathis Lanning. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Robinson, three brothers, Hubert, Clarence and Richard Lanning. He was a member of Camp Branch Freewill Baptist Church where he was a deacon and superintendent. He was a very fun loving person and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family who will miss him very much. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Christine Lanning; a daughter, Christie Lanning Robinson and her husband, Alan of Clyde; a son, Dale Lanning and his wife, Kathy of Waynesville; five sisters, Louise Parker of Clover, SC, Dorothy Gibson, Virginia Rhodarmer and Florence Caldwell, all of Waynesville and Ruth Ellis of Gastonia, NC; two brothers, James Lanning of Glenwood, MD and Dewey Lanning of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Walker Andrew Robinson, Chris and Dillon Lanning and Heather Owen. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 Monday at the funeral home and at other times, at the residence. Serving as pallbearers will be Darrell Caldwell, Sr., Darrell Caldwell, Jr., Ricky Caldwell, Tommy Conner, Tai Rhodarmer and Neil Rhodarmer.
