Waynesville-John Henry Ledford, age 82, of 7th Street, died Thursday, September 18, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jerry Lloyd and Emma Jane Mintz Ledford. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Wilburn Ledford and a sister, Zonie Adeline Ledford. He was employed by the Haywood County School System for 20 years as a bus mechanic. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a member of VFW Post 5202 and the American Legion Post 47. He loved woodworking, making picture frames, and crafts as well as gardening.
He is survived by two daughters, Angela Ruff, and her husband, Tony, and Teresia Cota and her husband, Thad, both of Clyde; two sons, Jimmy Ledford, and his wife, Mauriel, of Weaverville and Daryell Ledford and his wife, Deborah, of Clyde; one sister, Ruth L. Green, of Hazelwood; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Daniel Rushing officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road by E Troop 2/278th ACR from Newport, Tennessee. VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47 will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2003 at the funeral home, and at other times, the family will be at the residence of Angela Ruff, 88 Austin Road, Clyde.
