John Medford

Elizabethton, TN – John David Medford, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at his residence after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Amos and Ruth Trantham Medford and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Katherine Bradley Medford in 2002 and one brother, Joseph Howell Medford. He began his career with Akzona/American Enka where he was Marketing/Technical Manager. He served as Vice president of Sales and Marketing for North American Rayon and president and CEO of Narcote where he retired in 2005. John helped develop many innovative fabric products with his fantastic technical mind. He was also a little league coach and was heavily involved in the Clyde Youth Program through the 70's. John was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church and attended Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. He had a passion for dancing and had danced on the stage of the Grand Ole' Opry. John was also an avid swimmer and loved traveling all over the United States. He is survived by his wife of more than nine years, Marcia Moore Medford; two stepdaughters, Allison Catherine Anderson of Johnson City, Tennessee and Audra Nicole Sheppard of Kihei, Hawaii; mother-in-law, Mary Katherine Moore, of Johnson City; three sons, Mitchell Eric and his wife, Elizabeth Hubbell Medford of Austin, Texas, Norman Amos and Mary Burnette Medford, of Canton, North Carolina, and Vincent David and his wife, Kandace Banks Medford, of the Bethel Community; two step-grandchildren, Jason Michael and Morgan Katherine Anderson; and grandchildren, Amy Danielle and Austin Bradley Medford. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Love officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
