JOHN W. MEEKS "Beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather" Waynesville, John William Meeks, age 91, of Windy Hill Drive, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at MedWest Haywood. A native of Vincennes, Indiana, he had resided in Haywood County for the past 25 years and was the son of the late Terry William and Minnie Ice Meeks. John was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served honorably during World War II as a navigator on a B-25 bomber in the South Pacific. He received his engineering degree from Oklahoma and Texas Universities and was employed at Halliburton Corporation for 25 years, retiring in 1958. He loved visiting his grandchildren and playing golf. He was also was a fan of basketball and football, having played himself and attending college on an athletic scholarship. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Meeks; two daughters, Roni Meeks of Redway, California and Karla Meeks of Culver City, California; a stepson, Michael Henderson and his wife, Tracy, of Palm Bay, Florida; a stepdaughter, Faith Harrison, of Ft. Myers, Florida; two nieces, Barbara and Jack and Diana and Mike of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Thomas Tout officiating.
