John Myers

June 10, 1951 — February 7, 2010

Waynesville– John Brunson Myers, age 58, passed away peacefully at his home on February 7, 2010. He was the son of Lee Myers and the late George Myers. He is survived by his brother, David Myers, of Terlingua, Texas. He fought a long and courageous struggle with pancreatic cancer, always keeping hope until the very last. John was born in Hamilton, Ohio and was a graduate of Fairfield High School. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, he attended Millsaps College in Mississippi. Later, he lived in Austin, Texas; Jackson, Mississippi; and in Oakland, California before moving to Haywood County. He had a deep appreciation and love of music, both live concerts and recordings. He loved nature and especially enjoyed the time he spent at Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks. John was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and had many friends there. He volunteered several years with the Haywood County Friends of the Library where his fellow volunteers on the Book Sale Committee were like another family to him. John will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his mother and brother, he leaves behind Sandy Denman, who was like a sister to him, and Libby Dunevant, who was his special friend. A private memorial service will be held at Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Canton.
