Canton – John Baptist Parker, age 89, went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 26, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Booth and Parthena Houston Parker. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Willie, Hubert, Frank, James, and Victor Parker; and three sisters, Lucy Parker, Lily Stockton, and Lucy Mull. He retired from Champion International with 43 years of service and was a member of Rocky Face Baptist Church. John loved fishing, camping, and gardening. He was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evelyne Parker; two daughters, Peggy Holland and Brenda Worley and her husband, Jennings, all of Canton; a son, Larry Parker and his wife, Diane, of Canton; a brother, Wilburn Parker and his wife, Charlotte, of Waynesville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Donnie Henson and Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road with military honors. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
