John Richards

May 22, 1930 — September 19, 2011

John K. Richards, age 78, of Belle Meade Drive, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Detroit Michigan, he had resided in Haywood County since 2006. He was the son of the late William and Anne Kennedy Richards and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Donald Richards and two sisters, Barbara Richards and Connie Rulason. A US Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict. John was employed by White Pine Copper Company and was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. John was an avid rock hound and enjoyed collected agates along the shore of Lake Superior. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosalie Miller Richards; two daughters, Nancy Southworth and her husband, Richard, of Texas and Karen Richards of North Carolina; one son, Andrew Richards of Georgia; one sister, Patricia Martuscelli, of Michigan, and one brother, Robert Richards, also of Michigan; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Tout officiating. Memorials may be made to Relay for Life of Haywood County, 120 Executive Park, Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801.
