John Ruff

Waynesville-John Henry Ruff, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. He was born in Hazelwood, NC on September 25, 1918 to the late William Robert and Fannie Smith Ruff. He was retired from A.C. Lawrence Leather Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Kenneth Ruff and two sisters, Agnes Blanton and Doris Bishop. He was a charter member of Calvary Road Baptist Church and was a faithful leader and church worker for many years at Calvary Road and Barberville Baptist churches. He loved his family. He was a 50-year member of Waynesville Masonic Lodge 259 and achieved the standing of a 32nd degree mason in the Order of the Scottish Rite. He also loved Mountaineer football, Atlanta Braves baseball, and was an avid fly fisherman who enjoyed fishing the pristine waters of "Catalooch." He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth Underwood Ruff; two sons, John F. Ruff and Jim Ruff and his wife, Zeata; five grandchildren, John F. Ruff, Jr., Tim Ruff, Becky Moss, April Mendola, and Jackie Fields; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2007 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Virgil Holloway and Reverend Jeremy Troxler officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services.
