John Sooy

Waynesville, John William Sooy, age 71, of 125 Cartwright Drive, died Thursday, November 6, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Millville, New Jersey, resided in Westlake Village, California for 30 years then moved to Haywood County in 2007. He was the son of the late John W. Sooy and Lillian Satterlee Sooy. John was a 1955 graduate of Millville, NJ High School and received a BS Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He retired from ARCO as an Inventory Control Manger with 26 years of service. John was an avid bird watcher and Philadelphia Phillies fan. He was also a US Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol Ansink Sooy; one daughter, Linda Sooy of Waynesville; two sons, Keith Sooy of Waynesville, and Brian Sooy and his wife, Kim of Canton; one sister, Elizabeth Rea, and her husband, Gerald of Oak Ridge, TN; one brother, Richard Sooy and his wife, Sandee of Solon, OH and three grandsons, Keith "Richie" Sooy of Portland, OR, and William and Logan Sooy of Canton. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, November 10, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Hardy Tippett and Reverend Kathy Wilson officiating.
