John Underwood

Waynesville, John Taylor Underwood, age 61, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Robert and Yvonne Patterson Underwood. John graduated from Tuscola High School in 1971 where upon graduation, he attended Wingate Junior College and Appalachian State University. After his studies, John worked for Pet Milk Co., Southeast Holding, and Cline-Bradley. John was a fixture at Cline-Bradley, where his knowledge of gardening and caring demeanor, enabled him to help countless customers. Along with his love of PGA golf, John was a tried-and-true UNC Tar Heel. He enjoyed routing for all of the various UNC athletics, with a particular love of football and basketball. Above all, John cherished the love and relationships he had with his family. John is survived by his sister, Sara Underwood James, and husband, Eddie, of Pinehurst; two brothers, Robert Lee Underwood, and wife, Anne, of Raleigh and Sam Underwood, and wife, Lisa, of Pawley's Island, South Carolina; three nieces, Heather Ashe, Taylor Underwood and Anna Underwood; two nephews Dustin James, and wife, Brandee and Zack Underwood; a great-niece Mackenzie and great-nephew Miller. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service at Wells Events & Reception Center. A private committal service will be held on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Haywood County School's Foundation, 1230 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
