John Wells

John Thomas "Johnny" Wells, age 88, of Adeline Acres Drive, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at his residence. A native and resident of Haywood County most of his life, he was the son of the late Charles Broadway and Elizabeth Rhodarmer Wells. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Charles Wells; and one sister, Katie Schlemmer. Johnny was a graduate of Canton High School and Blanton's Business College. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II and served under General George Patton in the Battle of the Bulge as a radio operator on the front lines. He was employed with the Air Weather Service with the United States Government with 32 years service. He also held a North Carolina Realtor's license. Johnny was a lifelong member of Canton Central United Methodist Church and sang in the choir as a boy. Johnny loved construction and building of many things from apartments to furniture. Johnny was very devoted to his family and expressed his love to them throughout his life. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Medford Wells; one daughter, Jan Wells Grove and her husband, Michael, of Canton; one son, John Thomas Wells, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, of Belmont; and three grandchildren, John Anderson Cayton, Lauren Ashley Wells, and Thomas Cameron Wells. A memorial service will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, February 18, 2012 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend David Christy officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
