Johnie Gibson

Canton, Johnie Robert Gibson, 80, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. Born in Haywood County, he was the son of the late Pink and Laura Thompson Gibson and was also preceded in death by nephew, Hugh Robert Burgess and great-nephew, Brandon Michael Burgess, son of Ed and Kathy Burgess. Johnny will be best remembered as a fixture in the Canton community. He was regularly seen in town with his feathered Indian headdress and carrying his guitar as he waved to passers-by. Johnny is survived by sister, Frances Burgess; brothers, Russell Gibson of Canton and Grady Gibson of Clyde; and eight nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Barry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
