Canton – John “Johnny” Henry Rhodarmer, Jr., 91, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at John F. Keever Solace Center.
Johnny was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late John Henry and Ina Mann Rhodarmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucretia Warren and one brother, Major General Roger K. Rhodarmer. He was a graduate of Canton High school and member of an undefeated football team. Johnny was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force. Following his military service, he began working with the United States Postal Service and retired with 36 years of service. Johnny enjoyed golf, bowling and stock car racing and was a former stock car racing driver. He was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Sue “Susie” Rhodarmer; one daughter, Lisa Toon and husband, Dustin, of Clyde; one sister, Joan Elwood of California; one grandchild, Matthew Head; and one great-grandchild, John Luke Head.
The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent level of care that Johnny received at the John F. Keever Solace Center.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2020 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips officiating. Inurnment will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morning Star Community Cemetery Maintenance Fund, P.O. Box 1746, Canton, NC 28716.
