Canton - Johnny Lee Jenkins, of Axley Street, went to be with our Lord on Friday, March 11, 2016. Johnny was born in Haywood County, and was the son of the late James W. Jenkins and Grace Rathbone Jenkins. Johnny was a Clyde High School class of 1956 graduate and treasured his friendship with all his classmates. He retired from Champion International Paper after 36 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. From the time he was young, Johnny had a passion for cars and he was a "Ford" man who was extremely proud of his Mustangs. Johnny was a loyal NASCAR and Pisgah Bear football fan. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Peggy H. Jenkins; his daughter, Karen and husband, Mitch Robinson, of Clyde; special grandson, Matthew Robinson; one brother, James Jenkins; and three sisters, Catherine and husband, John Jaynes, Virginia and husband, James Underwood, and Carolyn and husband, Mike Haney; a special nephew, Cliff Henderson, as well as many other nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Darrell Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
