Johnny Mcelroy

Waynesville, Johnny William McElroy, age 61, of the Rabbit Skin Community, went to Glory peacefully in his home, Monday, November 15, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of Lura Mae Messer McElroy and the late Jerry William McElroy. Johnny loved playing and singing bluegrass, country and gospel music and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and being with his grandchildren. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Helen June Hannah McElroy, two daughters, Beverly James (Bobby) of Clyde and Misty Brown (Michael) of Waynesville; two step-daughters, Vickie Dowell (Jeff) of San Diego, CA and Tiffany Whitten (Ernest) of Savannah, GA; three sisters, Patricia Rathbone of Clyde, Irene and Benny Franklin and Edna Teague (Jimmy), all of Waynesville; one brother, Joe McElroy of Waynesville; grandchildren, Kayla Israel (Justin), Twins, Andrew and Justin Brown, Chanie Brown and step-grandchildren, Courtney Barnard, Fannie Whitten, Twins, Tiffany Angel Whitten and the late Barbara Hope Whitten. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Liberty Baptist Church. Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Barry Willett will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Herbert Birchfield, Jimmy Teague, Kenny McLeod, David Burgess, Benny Franklin and Sam Burgess. Honorary pallbearer will be Denny Jordan. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
