Johnny Gus Peterson, 91, of Asheville, died Monday, January 15, 2018. He was born in Asheville on June 8, 1926 to the late Gus and Mary DeMille Peterson. In January of 1943 he graduated from Lee H. Edwards, he then worked at Postal Accounts before joining the Army Air Force during World War II and serving in the U.S. and Pacific Theaters. After returning to Asheville, he became part owner of Petersons Grill on Pack Square and worked at Dixie Stores and 3 Brothers Restaurant. He loved his little dog, Patata. He also loved hunting, fishing, and dancing. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, George and Despina Peterson.
Johnny is survived by his sister, Mackey Griffis; nephews, Peter Alexis, Dean (Stacee) Peterson, Stom (Kathryn) Peterson, and niece, Maria (Jimmy) Yianopolous and many grand nieces and grand nephews.
The family will receive friends at 6:00pm on Wednesday, January 17th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with a Trisagion (Prayer Service) at 6:50pm. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 18th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Asheville with Rev. Fr. Michael Diavatis officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler. The family will host a Memorial Luncheon at Holy Trinity Community Center following the Committal Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 227 Cumberland Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
