Jon Morgan

October 4, 1935 — June 26, 2011

Jon Ray Morgan, age 75, died on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at MedWest – Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jay W. and Eula Brown Morgan. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister. He retired from Champion International with 42 years of service and was a member of Clyde First Baptist Church. Jon was past Master and Secretary of Clyde Masonic Lodge #453 AF&AM. He also served in the North Carolina National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Louise Gudger Morgan. Their 50th anniversary would have been August 13, 2011; two daughters, Carolyn Bradley (Rusty) of Fayetteville and Sharon E. Morgan of Waynesville; a step-daughter, Lynda Louise Anderson of Advance; an "adopted" daughter, Susie Downs of Waynesville; two sisters, Lois Hardin of Waynesville and Betty Conway of Asheville; a brother, Charlie Morgan of Bermuda Run; and a granddaughter, Morgan Bradley. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips and Reverend James Parham officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to MedWest – Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 or to a charity of one's choice.
