Jonathan Caldwell

JONATHAN C. CALDWELL "September 27, 1927-September 9, 2011" Waynesville, NC, Jonathan Crawford Caldwell, 83, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011. Jonathan was the son of the late Jarvis and Bonnie Caldwell. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Berry Caldwell, who died in 2007; an infant son, Johnnie Wayne Caldwell, and two brothers, Kendrick and Herschel Caldwell. He retired from McLean trucking and was a member of Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II. Jonathan was a native of Cataloochee Valley. Earlier in life, he enjoyed fly fishing, the Great Smoky Mountains and golf. Johnny was an avid fan of the game of baseball and especially the Atlanta Braves. Jonathan cherished each day of life with his loving wife of 54 years. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Rickman and her husband, Jeff, of Waynesville, ; a son, Frank Kevin Caldwell and his wife, Christie, of Greensboro, North Carolina; sister, Ann Ross and husband, Roy, of Waynesville; four brothers, Raymond Caldwell of Waynesville; J.R. Caldwell and his wife, Helen June, of Waynesville, Joe Caldwell and his wife Doyle of Arden North Carolina and Harley Caldwell and his wife, Pat, of Waynesville; granddaughter, Kirby James and her husband, Steven; and one great-granddaughter, Keegan. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2011 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Kevin Caldwell, Jack Lewis, Gregory Boyd, Max and Brook Sheppard, Jeff Rickman and J.R. Caldwell.
