Jonathan Messer

March 20, 1925 — August 16, 2008

Waynesville, Jonathan Phillip "Phil" Messer, age 83, died Saturday, August 16, 2008 at his residence. He was a native and resident of Haywood County most of his life. He was one of twelve children born to the late Phillip and Martha Bryant Messer. Phil was a retired, self-employed taxi operator and a member of Dellwood Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Caroline Beardsley Messer; two daughters, Martha Russell of Canton and Cheryl Trull of Nebo; three sons, John Messer of Asheville, Ryan Messer of Clyde and Bill Messer of Waynesville; a brother, Dan Messer and his wife, Elise and a nephew, Steve Messer, all of Waynesville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clyde with Reverend G.W. Jameson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
