Candler – Joseph Paul Clark, age 86, of Morgan Cove Road, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Letch and Hattie Elendar Capps Clark and was preceded in death by two sisters, Maude and Glada King. Paul was employed by Buncombe County Schools for 28 years when he retired in 1986. He was a United States Marine veteran serving in action at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, and Saipan. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruby Embler Clark; one daughter, Kathy Benson and her husband, Jim, of Arden; two sons, Jim Clark and his wife, Becky, and Carl Clark, all of Candler; one sister, Gladys King, of Candler; three brothers, Tom Clark of Gastonia, Bill Clark of Leicester, and Eddie Clark of Newfound; two granddaughters, Dawn Muse and McKenzie Benson; a very special grandson, Jonathan Clark, and a great-grandson, Alex Muse. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
