Waynesville, Joseph S. Hardin, age 91, of Mockingbird Drive, died on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Claud and Hattie Medford Hardin. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Ruth S. Hardin, who died in 2007; two brothers, Willliam and Edwin Hardin and an infant grandson. He retired in 1979 from Champion International with 45 years service and was the oldest member of Clyde First Baptist Church for 80 years. Joseph was Past Master of Clyde Masonic Lodge and served on Clyde School Board in the 1950's. He was a ham radio operator, Nascar fan, loved Bluegrass, played the fiddle and enjoyed trout fishing as a young boy. He is survived by a daughter, Jean Long and her husband, Harold of Waynesville; two sister-in-laws, Lois M. Hardin, of Waynesville and Angela A. Hardin, of Asheville; two grandchildren, Jody Long and his wife, Tracy and Cammy Woodbery and her husband, Jason; three great grandchildren, Wesley Woodbery, and Lyndsey and Cody Long and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July10, 2009 at Clyde First Baptist Church with Reverend David Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
