Joseph Jenkins, Jr.

November 2, 1916 — February 18, 2009

Joseph Paul Jenkins, Jr., age 92, of 29 Foothills Road, died on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at his residence. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of the late Joseph Paul Jenkins, Sr. and Alice Marie Nelson Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet MacNichol Jenkins, who died in 2005, and a brother, Walter Jenkins. Joseph was a retired district engineer for Southern Bell for 43 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of West Palm Beach, FL and attended New Covenant Church of Clyde. He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a member of the Grand Old Gators, and was a Gator letterman for the University of Florida where he attended college and played football. He is survived by two daughters, JoAnn W. Lewis and her husband, Clyde, of West Palm Beach, FL, and Beth Allison and her husband, Geoff, of Waynesville; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Rocky Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Michael, Sean, and Kyle Markham, Louis and Abe Miller, Josh Mashburn, Brian Slygh and Jordan Pelfrey. Flowers are accepted and appreciated or memorials may be made to Mountain Ark Ministries, 842 Red Maple Drive, Waynesville, NC 28785.
