Waynesville, Joseph "Joe" Anthony Pipitone, age 52, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a native and resident of Tampa, FL until moving to Haywood County 6 years ago. He was the son of Mary Cacciatore Pipitone of Tampa, FL and the late Jose Pipitone. Joe was employed by Hillsborough County, FL as a firefighter/paramedic for 17 ½ years. He was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Maggie Valley, NC and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was owner of Nico's Café along with his wife Michelle. Joe was a wonderful dad and loved playing sports with his children. One of his joys in life were riding horses and enjoying all his animals. His dream of opening a restaurant since he was 18 became a reality when he opened Nico's Café five years ago. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 16 years and mother of their children, Michelle Pipitone, his children, Nicolo Joseph Pipitone, Madeline Eve Pipitone and Michaela Lane Pipitone, all of the home; one sister, Linda Tambuzzo and her husband Marcello and their son and Joe's nephew, Andrew of Tampa, FL; mother-in-law, Donna Hill of Waynesville; father-in-law, Ron Kwiatkowski and his wife Jenny of Waynesville; brother-in-law, Jason Kwiatkowski of St. Petersburg, FL; step-sisters-in-law, Jennifer Kwiatkowski of Baltimore, MD; Regina Easter of Ayden, NC; Melanie Easter of Winterville, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Tampa, FL. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Tampa, FL. A memorial service will be held at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Maggie Valley, NC on January 13, 2010 at a time to be determined In lieu of flowers, a college fund is set up for the Pipitone children at Champion Credit Union, 516 Hospital Drive, Clyde, NC, c/o Michelle Pipitone. ****Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Maggie Valley. The family will receive friends following the service in the hall. Boza and Roel Funeral Home in Tampa, FL and Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville, NC are in charge of arrangements.
