Joseph Soboslai

Joseph Crist Soboslai, age 90, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Catawba Valley Assisted Living at Rock Barn. A native of Grafton, Ohio and former resident of Deland, Florida; he had resided in Canton for the past 22 years. He was the son of the late Michael and Mary Suto Soboslai of Hungary. Joseph was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie Jean Moore Soboslai; brothers, Julius, Michael, William, Louis, and Dan Soboslai; and a sister, Helen Horvath. Joseph worked for the Florida DOT in the Civil Engineering Dept. in Deland, Florida., where he retired. He loved to garden and was an avid model railroader and member of Land-O-Sky Model Railroader Club of WNC. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Canton. Joseph proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by daughters, Karen Sue Soboslai Silber and husband, Robert, Carol Ann Soboslai Turvin and husband, Charlie, and Diana Mae Soboslai Harrell and husband, Ray; grandchildren, Celeste James, Carrie Ann Henderson, Craig Turvin, Richard Dixon, Denise Leach, Tiffany Fischer; great grandchildren, Jacob Henderson, Dalton James, Miranda James, Christina Turvin, Catherine Turvin, Olivia Leach, and Everett Leach. A graveside service and military honors for Joseph will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park with his son-in-law, the Reverend Robert Silber officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Bonnie Soboslai, memorials may be made to MedWest Haywood Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
