Joseph Wilson Hyatt, age 86, of Thompson Cove died on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at MedWest – Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Weaver and Winnie Long Hyatt. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. He retired from Champion International with 42 years of service and was a member of Canton First Baptist Church. Joe was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Reed Hyatt; a son, Alex Hyatt and his wife, Judy, of Clyde; a daughter, Lynn Scarboro and her husband, Jim, of Waynesville; a sister, Doris Jimison and her husband, George, of Covington, VA; a brother, J. N. Hyatt and his wife, Nancy, of Waynesville; five grandsons, Robbie Hyatt and his wife, Sheila, Jason Hyatt, Blake Hyatt and his wife, Nicole; Garron Bradish and his wife, Jennifer, and Kevin Bradish and his wife, Erica; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler Killian, Ryleigh Hyatt, Jaxon Hyatt and Joseph Bradish. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2011, at Canton First Baptist Church with the Reverend James A. Meadows officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall with a reception in honor of Joe's life. At other times, the family will be at the home.
