Josephine Davis

August 13, 1925 — February 5, 2014

Waynesville, Josephine Hoyle Smith Davis, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. Josephine was a native of Jackson County and a former resident of Pennsville, New Jersey for 30 years, before moving to Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late John Harrison and Nancy Farris Sitton Hoyle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Hallet "Zeke" M. Smith who died in 1994; a son, Hallet Keith Smith who died in 1989; six brothers, Clarence, Glenn, Clem, Frank, Ray and Samuel Hoyle and a sister, Lucille Hoyle. Josephine was a faithful servant to her Lord and was a member of Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Frank Gale Davis; a daughter, Brenda Jo Smith of Waynesville; a sister, Geneva Wyatt of California; two grandchildren, Ross Edward LaBree and his wife, Seana Casey and Steffany Michale LaBree and two great-grandchildren, Ross Alexander and Katherine Grace LaBree. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon International-Haywood West Camp, P.O. Box 634, Waynesville, NC 287896.
