Clyde, Josiah Henry "Joe" Price, age 72, passed from this earthly life on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital after a two-month bout with lung cancer. He was the youngest child born to the late David Thomas and Daisy Caldwell Price. He was preceded in death by a young brother, Thomas, a half-brother, Bill Price, and his son-in-law, Bobby Willis who died in 1987. He graduated from Spring Creek High School in 1953. As a young man, he briefly attended Warren Wilson College and later worked in the Newport News Shipyard in Virginia and Dayco Southern. In the mid-fifties, he became associated with family members in Caldwell Well Drilling, where he continued to work until 1972 at which time he started his own drilling business, Price Well & Pump Company. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Wise Mens Fellowship Class, a Church Trustee, an Usher, and a member of the Building and Grounds Committee for many years. He was also a member of the Haywood West Gideon Brotherhood. Surviving and left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Ruby Radford Price; one daughter, Judy Price Brookshire of Clyde; two granddaughters, Kaylan LeeAnn Willis of Winterville, NC and Alana JoNeca Brookshire of Clyde; sister, Martha Price Plemmons and half-brother, Sam Caldwell Kirkpatrick and his wife, Geraldine, all of Hot Springs; half sister, Myrtle Price Duckett of Swannanoa; several nieces; nephews, cousins; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Glenn Rogers, Reverend Alan Davis, and Reverend Bruce Cayton officiating. Interment will be at Crawford-Ray Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Buckner, David Prestwood, Doug Connor, Danny McElroy, James Green, Joe Smith, Jeff Henderson, Erle Medford, and Reuben and Paul Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Woodland Baptist men. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday evening at the funeral home.
