Joyce Morgan

Clyde- Joyce Gail Matthews Morgan, age 79, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at MedWest-Haywood. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late James Young Matthews and Thelma Tweed Matthews Reed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Trav Ernest Reed and a stepsister, Thelma Louise Reed Hooper. Joyce was employed by AT&T as a Quality Control Manager in New Jersey, where she raised her family. In her retirement, she was a member of Canton Presbyterian Church. Joyce was an avid reader, enjoyed working in her garden, and bird watching, and loved playing with her dogs Lucy and McDaris. Even though Joyce loved her years of living and working in New Jersey, she always thought of Clyde as home. She is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Lynn Morgan (Chris Caragher) of Decatur, Georgia; a son, James Wilson Morgan of Asheville, NC and a former husband, Charles W. Morgan of Advance, NC. Joyce is also survived by numerous first cousins and many members of the Morgan family, of whom she was very fond. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Esta Jarrett officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
