Joyce Summey Sawyer

Joyce Summey Sawyer, a cherished member of the Haywood County community, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Born on April 5, 1941, in Haywood County, North Carolina, Joyce lived her life with grace and devotion to her family and faith.

As a beloved homemaker, Joyce dedicated herself to creating a warm and nurturing environment for her loved ones. She had a profound passion for reading, singing, and listening to gospel music, which she often shared with those around her, bringing joy and comfort into their lives.

Joyce was an active member of the Canton Church of God of Prophecy, where her strong faith guided her life and was a source of strength for her family and community. She found great pride in her spiritual journey and the connections she made within her church.

She is survived by her three sons: James Earl Sawyer (Anna) of Randleman, NC, Gary Sawyer (Robin) of Canton, and Robert Sawyer (Susan) of Clyde. Joyce's legacy lives on in her five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who were the lights of her life and whom she adored dearly.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Margaret Jenkins Summey, and her husband, James Harvey Sawyer, who passed away in 1990. She also mourned the loss of her son, Ricky Sawyer, who died in 2019. Joyce's life was filled with love and devotion, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her gentle spirit and unwavering faith will remain a guiding light for her family and friends as they carry her memory forward.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jamie Gardner and Reverend Ralph Rawls officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Canton, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. 

The care of Mrs. Sawyer has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
