Joyce Shuler

Waynesville, Joyce Caroline Bryson Shuler, age 87, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Jackson County, she was a daughter of the late James Bryson and Mattie Brooks Bryson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend James Shuler, who died in 2001; two sisters, Ruby and Pat Patterson; and one brother, John Bryson.  Joyce was a loving wife, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Throughout the spring and summer, you could find her tending the garden, or if you’re lucky, baking one of her famous prune cakes.  Her carport served as a community gathering place.  Joyce loved family and friends to gather, eat and laugh at her home.

Joyce is survived by two daughters, Cathy Sherrill (Doug) and Pam Moser (Ron), all of Waynesville; two sons, Mike Shuler (Joy) and Terry Shuler, all of Waynesville; a sister, Bertie Medford of Waynesville; a brother, Robert Bryson of Prineville, Oregon; five grandchildren, Jimmy Shuler, John Shuler, Doug Sherrill, Caroline Wyatt, and Elizabeth Thompson; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2020 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Sherrill and Reverend Barry Willett officiating.  Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The care of Mrs. Shuler has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
